  3. Personally, I think it is time that pro football and pro basketball create minor league systems like hockey and baseball. For all intents and purposes, college football and basketball are the 'acting' minor leagues for their pro counterparts and many of the players have no desire to get an education, they just want exposure for the respective pro drafts. Move these players out of college sports to where they really need to be, competing in minor leagues (or even top level pro league if they are that good out of HS) getting paid to play. Players who really want an education can still go scholar

  5. Sadly, the whole sports journalism field (and other specialty journalism fields as well) is all about click bait, not doing the real work to research/source stories and write intelligent commentary/reports. And a lot of the ex-jocks spend the bulk of their time trying to settle old scores, not do real reporting.
  6. Probably because he has the best 'behind the Waffle House dumpster' sources......
  7. Good times...err, Trib 😛 I used the Internet Archive to find the Spit material, it had a number of captures of the old Spit Bucs board. Unfortunately, it appears the Trib board was not captured. There are links to it in the Internet Archive Wayback Machine from the Rib's old Bucs sports page, but the forum pages will not load. It appears that the old Trib forum was on some sort of proprietary software that may have made it not conducive to the spiderbot harvesting that the Wayback Machine used back then.
  8. FYI, the oldest SPiT Armchair QB I could find on Internet Archive: https://web.archive.org/web/19980130233756/http://tampabay.com/GuestBooks/bucs/Default.html Not having any luck finding remnants of the the TBO Bucs Board from back in the day.
  9. To get on the bandwagon, I was a TBO board member starting in 94 and that jumped to the Spit when TBO closed the forum. At the time, the TBO format was considerably easier to follow, but I seem to remember some of the second tier Bucs beat writers for the SP Times would pop in on their Board to get the 'pulse' of BucNation. And then there was the Athenalink Board............
  10. Might not be a bad idea for us (the community) to try to timeline the history of the group. We seem to have foundations in the old St. Pete Times and/or Tampa Tribune Bucs forums of the 1990's and if our group history could be presented to a Bucs' beat reporter and/or the Bucs themselves, they might do an article or two about 'us'. Which in turn could drive some traffic.
  11. I would say this in regard to Brown's situation, he would not be the first person to have a moving company show up and the movers suddenly say the charge has doubled and if you don't pay, you don't get your stuff. I have had several friends and one family member have that happen to them by various movers, even some with high 'reviews'. The estimator will show up and low ball the quote and then the movers (usually subcontractors) will do the actual work and feel they are owed more. And the companies get away with it by saying you are non-paying and hold your stuff in storage until you either pa
  12. Which is why I think season records should be based on full season game averages. If you have 2000 yds in the 14 game season your season number is 142.86 yds per game (2000/14), regardless if you played 10 games or 14. If you have 2000 yds in the 17 game season your number is 117.65 yds per game (2000/17), again regardless of how many games you actually played. Total statistical numbers should only be for game records and career totals. I would also ignore any attempt to adjust for anything 'subjective' like rule changes, conditioning, world conditions (war time), etc. Just stick to
  13. With the NFL adding yet another game to the season, its likely we will see a number of season records (team and player) fall just because of the extra game. In fact, the number of games played in a season has gone from 12 (1935-1960, some 10/11 game season in there as well) to 14 (1961-1977) to 16 (1978-2020) to 17 next season. That is an increase of 42% more games over the span of the NFL. My suggestion is that all season statistics should be based on a season average per game stat based on the total of the stat number (yards, TD, sacks, etc) for the season divided by total number of games fo
  14. I'm actually loving Brady envy by other QB's. It is throwing a lot of teams into a tizzy trying to deal with their QB issues right now.
  15. Yeah, I think the numbers are about making sure to have bodies in case one of the backups is hurt during pre season.. Not sure if Griffin could get through on practice squad, but who knows.
  16. And I think that can be better served via FA as well. Every season there are X number of QB's who have aged out of starting capacity but may be good for one or two games if needed. I literally have no trust that Trask is going to come in and save the season if Brady goes down. I have more trust in Gabbert in that role and if we need an understudy to the understudy (Gabbert), don't waste a 2nd rounder on them.
  17. I honestly believe the Bucs are better served looking for the QB of the future in FA when Tom says he is ready to retire. I think the pick could have been better used on depth somewhere else on the roster.
  18. Ahhh, nothing beats having the Pack eating rotten cheese... https://www.yahoo.com/sports/packers-have-only-themselves-to-blame-for-aaron-rodgers-draft-day-chaos-010300782.html
  19. It will be interesting to see what the impact is on the players that sat out for Covid. In one respect, they missed a year of development, but Tyron is going to get the benefit of playing behind a strong D front and learn. The flip side is it is one less year of wear and tear that they have so we get a slightly used model as opposed to the used one...
  20. I think the Bucs trade back and get out of the first round for more second and/or third round picks. They would drop considerable amounts of rookie cap and if they drafted to their strength (finding O and D linemen in later rounds) could find guys for the trenches down the line. I would literally not draft any skill position AT ALL.
