But privately, after spending the spring and summer installing a new offense and trying to coach bad habits out of Winston, coaches are stunned at his lack of progress in that area.

But the insistence of using a third wideout such as Miller, Wilson or Perriman (when he wasn’t injured) is ridiculous. The best pass catchers on this team are Evans, Godwin, Howard and Cameron Brate, who’s playing less than 30 percent of the offensive snaps.

So let's break down what happened during those 33 seasons of which 22 were pissed away by these 1st rounders.  The point was made that Brad Johnson was supported by a great defense, but imagine if we had gone the journeyman QB route instead of drafting Dilfer.  Chances are pretty good that the Bucs team from that era would be sitting on 3-4 Super Bowl Championships, but they didn't have adequate QB play.  With WD-40 and that defense all we needed was a pedestrian passing game.  We had a couple years with DeBerg in there (no worse than these 1st rounders), and then about a 10 year stretch under Gruden where he was digging the team out of salary cap hell, and while we bounced around QBs, the overall QB play was still better than those scrubs.

I totally get the 'if we picked and developed the right QB with our hypothetical early 1st round pick' but I just think this team needs to move away from that model.  It hasn't worked at all for 3 decades.

The cards drafted Josh Rosen and the new staff realized A. He wasnt a franchise QB B. there was another potential franchise QB available when they drafted.

That's the way it's done! You don't let one recent mistake stop you from landing a potential stud.

If when the Bucs pick, there isnt a QB with a ton of potential, then yes you dont force it.

But it just so happens that the year where the Bucs need a QB, the draft is loaded with some really good ones.

But the Bucs being the Bucs will probably trade and load up on draft picks and then draft 6 more DBs all of whom arent very good and then have some journeyman scrub at QB.
