Rays nearly blow an 8-0 lead but win 11-7 over Toronto. Castille was down 3-0 with the score 8-7 based loaded and two out. He threw three straight breaking balls for strikes to get out of the inning. Rays got 3 in the 9th for insurance although Alvarado was super strong.

5 straight series wins to open a season which is a franchise record. Rays win 8-4. Charlie deserved a 5 inning win but an error made that impossible. He struggled with his control but allowed only one run.

Font is the weak link in the bullpen. He struck out the side after giving up a walk and a home. Stanek struggled as well. Had to be yanked after a 1/3 of an inning. Kolarek gets a win with that key strikeout in the 5th with the bases loaded.

Rays end the road trip 7-2. They take on Baltimore and Boston this week.

Deep breath! It’s a long season, there will be ups and downs. I am encouraged by the depth “we” have. I have said before, if guys just hit their career average, they will win more than they lose, with exceptional pitching, quite a bit more.

Right now I am just happy to have a local sports team doing well.
