My Dad somewhere in France in 1944.
Patton's third army, Fourth Armored Division. Patton called the Fourth the finest fighting unit he ever saw, let alone commanded. If you saw the movie "Patton" it was the Fourth Armored Division that marched nearly 100 miles to Bastogne to relieve the 101st Airborne. My Dad was in that unit and they marched around the clock for two days to get to Bastogne. Guys would march four hours, and rotate on and off tanks for four hour rests.
Entered the war as a green kid, exited as Master Sargent, hardened forever from being a part of the liberation of the death camps.
Would have turned 100 this year. The finest man I ever knew.
