Smitty turned them down.  He didn't care for the triumvirate arrangement with Coughlin involved, and said no way to Coughlin having final roster control.

He got burned once, and doesn't want to put his future as a head coach in someone else's hands.  Still it would be nice to have a talented DC we can expect to keep a few years.

San Diego seems to be the most immediate danger for the Bucs. Hopefully they opt for someone other than Smith.

I'll worry about losing Smith's shit-eatin grin when he gets a second interview. Coveted coaches will be free to interview after all the playoffs so that could push Smith down the list.

I can't see any established coach wanting to get involved with that fiasco. No home for a few years. Looney owner and GM.
