in recruiting or the advantage of having or using a traditional STUD runnning back.....they have won (dominate running backs ) more big and little football games since the game began.....
running the ball and stopping the run is THE GAME ! all else is highlight diversion

Mack Brown is coming in- he is a bigger back- and Moody was supposed to be that big back when he transferred from SC.
Demps, Rainey and Gillisee are speed backs. During the Tebow years, it was hard to get the big back- they were down to the wire with Trent rRchardson last year, and IMHO he will be an All- American. With Brantley in place for the next two years, the Gators will be running a more traditional type passing offense, and that might attract a recruit in 2011

The dominant power back was Tebow! Think about it. It is a rare for a QB to be his size where on running plays he is much bigger than the guy who has to account for him on the option. Plus when the QB is running the ball, you have an extra blocker that is not available when the power back is a RB.

When's the last time Florida's had a dominant power back? They've been a QB school for a couple decades now and I'm not sure they'll get one and run him anytime soon. If I were a dominant back recruit, I'd go to Alabama or even Georgia or Auburn before I picked Florida at this point.

He made runs at big backs, but with Tebow at the helm, it was a tough pull. They came down to the final 2 with Richardson, but he picked Alabama, and will be a future NFL player out of there.

My original question still is not addressed......does not Urban understand how much more powerfull a team, unrestricted by salary cap and roster limits are with a STUD RB....every thing gets better

By saying " understanding," you imply that he has not tried to get the elite back, and that is just not the case.

his running back while he was at Utah was 6 foot and 225 lbs.
Hardly a speed back. You take advantage of what you have, and how they perform. when you have an Olympic speed running back that hits the hole hard, and is a good football player, that is who you use. i know what you are trying to do, but your argument does not hold water. He has recruited big backs every year.

Meyer on Brown:
On Mack Brown and the importance of securing a physical running back: “I love Mack Brown. He has a great mom and his father was kind of the family member that I got closest with. I think he might be the highest-rated back we’ve gotten since we’ve been at Florida. I watched him on tape and it reaffirms why we want him. We need to have him ready to go right now. He has the size to become a 210-pound guy.”

The spread offense doesn't attract big backs as those types see other scenarios being better for their future NFL careers. Perhaps with Brantley and a conventional drop back attack, this changes as is evidenced with M Brown coming in....

Tim was a unique QB- he was the big back. I'd say look more of aL eak type offense( for a reference point) with a full-back, 2 TE sets on occasion- also a little more under center.
