Is this the most undisciplined Bucs Team? McCoy thinks So

tmservo

In post-game press conference, Gerald McCoy said: "Probably the worst I've ever been on as a collective"

“I usually know what to say. At this point, guys. I don’t know. I don’t know anymore. I don’t know. I know we’re going to keep going. I don’t have no answer. I really don’t I’m sorry.

“We gotta be more disciplined that that. Penalties can kill you. A lot of the points in the game we were at because of penalties. Very undisciplined team. Very undisciplined team. Probably the worst I’ve ever been on as a collective, as a unit.”

I have heard so much recently about how the team needs to shore up the defensive line.

In 2010, we drafted the centerpieces of the defensive line of the future using the #3 overall pick on Gerald McCoy and a high second on Brian Price.

In 2011, we drafted the balance of the defensive line of the future with the selection of Adrian Clayborn and DaQuan Bowers.

A number of points:

Ever see a perennial contender - a team like the Packers, Patriots, Steelers or other premier team draft an entire defensive line with the top two picks in two straight drafts? The great teams draft linemen every year and groom them to be starters in three or four years.

The approach to building this defensive line is reflective of the patchwork, fill a hole here, fill a hole there quick fix approach this team is mired in.

Gerald McCoy missed half of his first two seasons already. And he received a HUGE contract to not play. He started to reach his potential in his third and fourth years. And now has read so many of his own press clippings about his leadership and how he is supposed to be this teams Warren Sapp and Warren Sapp is talking about what he needs to do and how he is schooling McCoy and McCoy is now playing on his laurels instead of running through walls. Look at me, I'm the next Warren Sapp - everyone says so, therefore I must be.

Brain Price's problems flamed him out after two injury filled years.

Adrian Clayborn is missing his second straight season due to injury.

DaQuan Bowers has missed two seasons due to injury and has been awful when he "has been" on the field.

This team is broken at its core. The patchwork fix it up approach, lack of leadership, lack of quality control, lack of competent coaching, scouting, training - everything we do is catch as catch can as opposed to regimented and well planned.

Welcome to year six of the five year non-plan.

I watched the Fox Sports wrap up show yesterday - after all but the Sunday Night game had been played.

Like him or not, Howie Long was a pretty accomplished player in this league and a Hall of Famer.

In the "Last Word" segment which will be about a player or a team event that was telling in the days games, Long made this statement:

"There are a handful of players in this league, so relentless, so singlemindedly focused they reach a level of intensity where the opponents are saying 'Mommy make it stop!' One of those players is Detroit Lions Defensive Tackle Ndomakong Suh who nearly single handedly beat the Miami Dolphins into submission. He is the kind of player who tells you he is going to go right through you - not around you, he's not going to trick you, he's just going to go right through you and he dares you to try and stop him."

While it is convenient to say the McCoy/Suh war drives this observation - I wish Gerald McCoy had more of THAT in his character instead of throwing darts at his team mates behind the media. Want to inspire greatness? Shut up and be great and stop talking about what the news media - and particularly Warren Sapp says about you.

Booger McFarland arrived here and basically became Sapp's valet. There was so much imitation  of Sapp players openly referred to him as "Sapp Jr." They drove the same car make, wore the same watch, dressed similarly and Booger started to talk like Sapp. Gerald McCoy so badly wants to be compared to Warren Sapp he doesn't know who Gerald McCoy is.

I don't think Suh is having any of those problems. His stat line against a Miami team considerably tougher than the Falcons was one sack, three QB hits, four tackles and three of them for a loss.

Brilliantly put. Suh receives a lot of hate, and much of that was earned back in his immature early years, but there are few defenders in the league that play with Suh's intensity and desire. And it shows. He almost never misses a play due to injury. He sets a tone that motivates his defense to keep the pressure coming all game long. He's a physical force. Now that commitment from Suh has culminated in making the Lions defense the best in the NFL.

I like Gerald McCoy. It's hard not to like Gerald McCoy. McCoy has a great smile and has an appealing teddy bear-like quality with those eyeglasses when he flashes the smile off the field. On the field McCoy is totally different. He has raw talent and puts that talent to use. Individually McCoy dominates and disrupts almost as well as Suh does, but his presence just doesn't carry over to his team mates the way Suh's presence does. That's unfortunate.

Hey McCoy, so what, you got doubled, tripled, chipped most of the day yesterday, but you still should have had sacks, tackles, pressures, maybe a strip and fumble recovery.......that's the logic?

How many times was Sapp single covered? McCoy is good but I have never seen him take over a game. Don't get me wrong its not his fault that he is surrounded by shit that falls directly on the front offices door steps

Simple.

This team fucking blows. The owners blow. The coaches blow. The players blow. The trainers blow. The administrators blow. The office personnel blow. The food service staff blows. The ground crew blows.

Fuck the NFL.

Kinda what you get when you hire back to back rookie GMs.

Neither have the pedigree to run a franchise, nor should they have been allowed to.

Until we start drafting and doing talent evaluations like a pro team we will always come up short.

Is there light at the end of the tunnel - of course.

We get one more shot at a top 3 pick. . . . .now lets see if we can make that work.

My problem is that McCoy says this is the most undisciplined team he's been on. But not once was there a 'me' or 'we' in there.

If this is the most undisciplined team he's been on, what is he doing to fix it? If he's this leader, he needs to shut up and lead them. Not say oh they're undisciplined.

Lead McCoy. Don't run your mouth about it. Take over games, and take over your locker room.

It's almost impossible to engage you in a discussion because you continue to move the goal posts. You've gone the way of snook, but thanks for trying.

People need to understand the difference between blaming McCoy for losing, and calling him out for his running his mouth. Two entirely different things.

Is he the reason for the Bucs' being 1-8? No. I don't recall anyone saying that, myself included.

But, when a guy comes out and goes on about how he doesn't think his teammates are tired of losing - and then proceeds to put up one tackle - I can't help but find his usual post game comments to be tiring and empty.

If he simply shut up, and played, I don't he'd generate nearly as much criticism.

Case in point - Lavonte David. When has ever said anything about his teammates, or the state of the franchise? He's too busy playing at an all pro level. McCoy should try it.

For all you out there clamoring about how good he is and how we shouldn't be on his case, read this. The guy has million dollar talent, no doubt about it, but he needs to lead by example and not by running his mouth. DD28 says it all when he referenced Lavonte.

This!

McCoy is one of the best players on a really shitty team.

There is so much wrong with this team and organization. Sad thing is this is year one of yet another "plan".

I could understand the team needing to adjust to a new coaching staff and scheme, but there is NO excuses this team being as undisciplined as they are. None!

Jumping offside and lining up offsides..sure those didn't cost them the game this week, but may have last week and will in the future. Celebrating using the football as a prop..stupid fucking rule, but know the rules and don't do it! Also, almost every 3rd down, whether it is 3rd and 5 or 3rd and 25, the Bucs defense lets them convert. And when the other team doesn't make a play...WAIT FOR IT...there's the flag for defensive holding, illegal contact, illegal hands to the face..ALWAYS something with this team. And that falls on coaching after weeks of the same bullshit.

And WHY does Koenan still have a roster spot?? I don't care if they never punt again this year or if they want me to come in for the rest of the year and punt. Cut this guy TODAY!!

My mistake, I forgot that Snook likes McCoy, so you don't.

That's a stupid-assed statement, tb. DD28 is one of the few people on this board that hasn't bought in to Gerald's bullshit ramblings..........and there are very few of us. Some of you guys soak it up like it's the gospel and that Gerald isn't part of the problem. That's the disturbing thing.

Gerald needs to look more at his play and what he can do to be better, than pointing his fucking finger at everybody else. Because he does possess talent at the DT position, if he plays up to the level he's paid to play at, he would make this defense better instantly.

The point is when you have Simeon Rice, Culpepper, Ahanotu, Spires, etc...then those guys make plays and even free up Sapp because he's not the only player you have to worry about.

I'm not going to get into a McCoy vs Sapp/Suh debate because there are so many things fucked up about this team and McCoy is way down the list.

No, the logic is that every other dominant defensive tackle in the fucking league (and in the history of the league) found ways to get it done in spite all of those things. The only thing McCoy has done is run his yap.

I agree with what you are saying, fanof.

The thing that chaps my ass is that nobody else is running their cockslobber after they lose, other than McCoy. It would be different if he were putting say 3 tackles, a sack, and a couple of pressures on the opposing QBs, but he's not. He should produce more and talk less. If he has issues with other players or coaches, he should be a fucking professional and address it with them man to man, not go out in front of the media with his passive-aggressive stance and make some vague-ass statement like "this team is the most undisciplined team he's ever been a part of". Especially when he is the figurehead for that same team.

Bucs had 4 offsides calls in the game. I think only one was McCoy. One was Bowers and one Gholston. I also think all were declined. So they had little impact on the game. Not that this is good just that it didn't have an impact.

Not arguing with you because I exagerated the number purposely to the number that should have been called, but I actually laughed at the Bowers call. It was definitely McCoy. When the ref said the words #91, the actual #91 ran onto the field exactly one frame later. He wasn't even out there on that play.

Their center, BTW, has a tendency to bow his back right before he snaps it. Only thing I can think of to explain the excessive offsides.
